Kaapsehoop Horse Trails offers horse riding and accommodation, equine programmes and more. Experience the wonderful benefits of being with horses, of being in nature when you spend time at this well-known and serene mountain getaway.

Situated on the Drakensberg Escarpment, 35km from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga in South Africa, near the quaint historic gold mining village of Kaapsehoop. 

As you follow the winding 7km forest track through the Berlin Forest, you will find your shoulders lightening, your eyes being drawn to the horizon and your lungs drawing in the fresh pine-scented air.... Soon a beautiful world meets both horse and nature lover.

Horses are both beautiful to watch and of significant impact to the lives of many. A ride on a horse is akin to no other feeling, indeed psychologists and other mental health professionals are more and more recognising the value of horses’ particular character to promoting well-being.

Horse Riding in Kaapsehoop

Regardless of your riding experience, your safety, comfort and enjoyment is our priority. Novice riders will quickly feel at ease on our well-trained horses, also our dedicated team is always on hand offering guidance both before and during the outrides.

The experienced rider can enjoy a scenic hour ride that includes both trotting and cantering or alternatively we do offer longer rides. All trails are guided.

Accommodation in Kaapsehoop

Our accommodation offers a comfortable retreat for nature enthusiasts. Ideally suited for families or groups of friends seeking a tranquil yet exhilarating country getaway, the location offers a serene escape.

We have 3 distinctly unique houses all with their own histories and stories, all self-catering:  The Guest House, The Trail House and The Stable House.

All the houses are equipped with basic food preparation and cooking facilities, as well as a braai (barbecue) area for self-catering. Alternatively you can venture into the village of Kaapsehoop where you’ll find various restaurants.

No smoking indoors and no pets allowed.

Equine Programs in Kaapsehoop

We offer various equine programmes as we highly value learning and education. Further, learning in a natural environment while being active, is a fun way to gain knowledge and skills. Our programs include pony camps, educational school groups and volunteer programmes. We also cater for tailor made group packages and events.

Note: We strongly advice that you only use the GPS coordinates once you have reached the Kaapsehoop village; Should you enter the coordinates in your GPS when you commence travelling, say departing from Johannesburg, the settings may lead onto plantation roads which are unsuitable for commercial travelling.
